Thomas G. Egner, Esq.
I have been successfully handling consumer bankruptcy cases in South Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania for over 18 years. Prior to entering the arena of bankruptcy, my legal background centered on personal injury and municipal court.
In 1982 after graduating Upper Dublin High School in Montgomery County Pennsylvania, I spent two years at Ursinus College as a Biology major. Following my sophomore year in college I had the opportunity to spend the summer in Israel on an Archeological Dig in Israel. The results are summarized in the book, Khirbet Nisya, The Search for Biblical Ai 1979-2002.
My junior and senior years in college were spent as a Religion major at Temple University where I graduated summa cum laude. Not wanting to waste my religious training, I decided on a legal career and entered Delaware Law School in 1987 which would become Widener Law by graduation in 1990. I especially enjoyed the association with Widener since my grandfather graduated Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University). After graduation I practiced personal injury as well as criminal law and even spent time in the insurance and securities industry.
I was married September 4th 2004 in Ocean City to my wife Christina. Christina runs an online business from our home. I have three girls, Ashley(22), Emily(11) & Lillian(6). Emily has a rare condition initially labeled as chromosome 17q21.31 micro deletion syndrome now known as Koolen deVries syndrome. In 2009, our family hosted the first C17 gathering of families with children having this condition, including Dr. David Koolen and Dr. Bert deVries from Holland. Emily was granted her wish to go to Disneyworld last year by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey. We share our families story at onelittlepooh.net.
I have strong ties to the Philadelphia area going back to the mid-1800s. My great grandfather and grandfather owned and operated H. Swoboda & Son until the 1950s. Their factory was located in North Philadelphia and supplied horse hide to A.G. Spalding & A.J. Reach. Thomas Shibe & George Reach were guests in my great grandfather’s box at the 1915 World Series in Philadelphia. My father is a graduate of John Bartram High School in southwest Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. My mother graduated from the Stevens School in Germantown (was a classmate of Grace Kelly) and Penn State University. Both worked at the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania and are currently retired.
I had the opportunity to join the firm of McDowell Posternock Apell & Detrick PC in November 2014 where I had the pleasure of working for Ellen McDowell.
I am proud to say that in January of 2018, I was invited to join Ellen McDowell’s new firm here at McDowell Law, PC. Here, I will continue to dedicate my practice of serving the great South Jersey and Philadelphia communities with their consumer bankruptcy needs.
